MISSION

From the Preamble to our Constitution:

"We take upon ourselves a special responsibility to uphold to proper balance of intellectual, spiritual, and social development of the student body, and strive to be guided and directed by the mission statement of Ave Maria University."

The Purpose of the Council

From our Constitution:

  1. Promote and uphold the mission statement of Ave Maria University, both within and outside the Ave Maria community.
  2. Assist in the growth and development of the University’s vision of fostering a well-rounded Catholic culture on campus by advancing appropriate student ideas and initiatives.
  3. Function as the official representative voice of the student body by which students may express their opinions and concerns to the University.
  4. Serve as the representative council that derives its authority from the student body of Ave Maria University and acts on its behalf.

Current Projects

This Spring 2024, SGA is working on:

  • New student hammocks for the academic lawn
  • New racing arcade game for the Cafe
  • Updating student study spaces in the Henkels Academic Building
  • Adding picnic benches near the Prince Building and academic lawn
  • Updating lighting areas in the student quad for Gaga Ball and shaded pavilion.

Election Information

Interested in joining the Student Government Association? Here’s how!

  • Elections fort he Executive Board and upperclassmen Representatives are held at the end of the Spring Semester for the following school year.
  • Elections for Freshman are held within the first 3 weeks of the Fall term among the Freshman academic class. Election winners will begin their term immediately upon accepting their office.
  • Any students may run for an executive board position, or for a representative position in accordance with their academic class. All candidates will be run over a secret ballot, the executive board across the student body and the representatives within each academic class**.
  • Once elected, all members except for the freshman representatives will begin their term in June prior to the school year and conclude at the end of the academic year in May.

**A student’s academic class is determined according to the student’s academic year as recorded by the Office of Student Records.
