The purpose of the Dietrich von Hildebrand Club is to promote the life and works of Dietrich von Hildebrand and those closely associated with him (including but not limited to: St. John Henry Newman, St. Edith Stein, Max Scheler, St. John Paul II, and Hedwig Conrad-Martius). Our aim is to share not only the rich Catholic thought Hildebrand offers but also enter the life that followed so closely the life of our Lord Jesus Christ. In this way, the club will serve two purposes: (1) to grow closer to Christ by looking to the example of the holy lives of Christ’s servants and (2) to engage critically with the thought of Hildebrand and other personalist thinkers and thus, enrich the Catholic intellectual culture of Ave Maria. These goals will hopefully provide a greater insight into the life and works of Hildebrand, but most importantly, we hope to provide the Ave Maria student body with another opportunity to come into closer contact with the 20th Century Catholic intellectual tradition.
